FOLLOWING THE SALAF and the people behind it seek to revive the first guidance in a time where shirk (associating partners with Allāh in worship) is widespread among those ascribing themselves to Islām, and where the Sunnah is considered to be become bida’ and bida’ is considered to be the Sunnah. And when we say ‘the first guidance’ we mean the religion which is based upon the Qurān and the Sunnah according to the understanding of the first three praised generations – the Sahābah, the tābi’ūn and the tābi’ at-tābi’īn – and whoever followed them in goodness among the scholars.

’Abdullāh ibn Mas’ūd (radiAllāhu ’anhu) said:

إنكم أصبحتم على الفطرة، وإنكم ستحدثون، ويحدث لكم، فإذا رأيتم محدثة، فعليكم بالهدي الأول

“You have verily become upon the fitrah, and you will verily invent innovations and innovations will be presented to you. So when you see an innovation, then upon you is (to follow) the first guidance.” (Al-Ibānah ‘an Sharī’ah Al-Firqah An-Nājiyah)

This means follow the religion which the Messenger of Allah (sallAllāhu ’alayhi wa sallam) was sent with, which he (sallAllāhu ’alayhi wa sallam) taught to his Companions (radiAllāhu ’anhum) who then taught it to their students, who then taught it to their students – rahimahumullāhu ajma’īn.
